I would only add that all hospitals in developed countries are staffed by police officers. In most large hospitals, a police office is located in the hospital itself. And, if the Chinese hospital authorities, or the Chinese government can figure out how to make the citizenry happy about its hospital service then they'll have done something that no one in the history of human kind has been able to do. That said, there is plenty of work to be done and getting police officers into these places might not be such a bad idea.

"Just back from teaching for the second year in Duke University's joint (along with Peking University) certificate in Global Health, held in Beijing, on the campus of PKUs health science campus. This is the same campus with PKU's "Third Hospital" and just inside the fourth ring road, about 5 minutes by taxi (or 45 minutes depending on traffic) from the Olympic village, Bird's Nest stadium, the water cube, etc. Professor Yan Guo directs the certificate from PKU's end and she is a delightful colleague, who got her start in public health and medicine as a barefoot doctor in rural China."

Seriously, the Chinese aren’t okay with aborting their baby girls.

At base, I have trouble believing that millions of parents in a culture that's family centered would do that to their babies. I have said as much in the past. There are lots of other explanations available, and the Telegraph reports on one today - the Chinese are having the girls but not reporting them, thereby skewing official numbers.
