published an article that is a good follow up for this week’s earlier post on expat jobs in China. The article, is based on “‘’ survey conducted by ; an international recruitment firm,” which “asked 9117 companies in major markets around the world whether they were currently hiring at professional and managerial level.” (You can download the full Q32010 Antal Global Snapshot ).
According to Antal, employers in the healthcare industry and the renewable energy industry are recruiting at the highest rates of anyone in the world, followed by bio-tech, retail and then professional services. The countries with the highest employment rates are Thailand and China, at a whopping 86% and 81% respectively. America’s healthiest job market is for professional jobs where 66% of organizations are hiring, the rest of the news is .
Perhaps the most interesting takeaway from these numbers is how hiring varies across countries. For most industries, some countries are hot with hiring while other countries have slowed down worker intake for the same. What does this mean for those struggling to find a job in the US? It means that they have more options than they realize. The rise of globalization and the ensuing global competition for jobs doesn’t just mean that Americans are competing with foreigners for American jobs, it also means that Americans can compete with foreigners for foreign jobs. The skillsets young American’s have which may not be in demand here, are in demand elsewhere.
