“A food safety expert for the World Health Organization, Dr. Peter Ben Embarek, told The Associated Press that China’s test results are expected within days and that the agency will then take a look.
‘At first look, it looks very surprising,’ he said, adding that this is the first time he’s ever heard of such a case.”
The story itself is unremarkable since there are few hard facts to go on – the story is a fluffy human interest piece dressed up as health news. But, do read through the article for some amusing quotes, like the one above from a clearly (and appropriately) bemused Dr. Embarek. Various other commentators go a step further and postulate that if a link between the babies breasts and milk is found that hormones might be to blame, but the link between hormones in food and health outcomes is poorly understood, so you can just mostly ignore that stuff.
