GOP denies leaky breast implants led to Sarah Palin hospitalization

Posted by Damjan DeNoble

This intriguing hypothetical – where a leading female political figure is sidelined by punctured breast balloons – is playing out in Manila this week.

The Taipei Times reports that Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s recently publicized seclusion due to outbreak of swine flu was, in fact, a cover up for a potentially embarrassing surgery involving the President’s punctured breast implant.

What makes this story interesting (apart from the oddity) is that the President’s public relations team is still heartily denying that President Arroyo ever had implants despite the large amount of evidence that suggest otherwise.  As one would expect this exchange has produced a few quotatious comments [sic].  My favorite two from either side of the fence are below;

Presidential spokesman Cerge Remonde responding to questions about the implants at a press conference;

“Just look if the president had a breast implant,” he said. “It’s obvious if women have had breast implants. The sexy actresses with boobs, they’re the ones who underwent breast implants. We can’t say the same thing of the president.”

and, Senator Aquilino Pimentel gives a summary of the past five years of Philippine politics;

“We have fake elections, we have a fake president, now we have fake boobs,” he said. “It’s fake all over.”

What this means for her political campaign is not for me to comment on, and I will leave any jokes to readers.

I will point out that before I saw this story I never thought that elective surgery would ever impact politics on the national level.
