Big Day in Our Blog’s History

Posted By Damjan DeNoble

Two very cool items to share today – the first of which represents a true milestone in our blog’s history.

I woke up this morning in North Carolina to an email from co-blogger James Flanagan that said,

yo
did you see this!?

hahaha!

I, in fact, had not seen that fantastic endorsement of our blog by Dan Harris of China Law Blog, but I am very happy to see it now.  For me, personally, China Law Blog has actually been the inspiration for my work on this blog – and James and I have tried to emulate its reasoned, insightful, and somehow still personal approach to important China and global issues.

To that end, I have been wanting to write the following words for a while, so here we go…

Thank you Dan Harris and China Law Blog for giving us a (HUGE) shoutout!  If Dan has been reading us for months, as he says, then it is only fair to say that James and I have been reading China Law Blog for years.  It is the BEST China blog on the net.  Go read it if you have not been lucky enough to so far, and you can follow Dan Harris on twitter at @DanHarris.

Really, thank you so much, this means a heck of a lot.

Item number two has to do with friend Paul Steele who was unlucky enough this week to have several Chinese police officers come by his office and carry him off to quarantine.

Currently, then, Paul is stuck in a hotel room where fuwuyuans in rubber suits bring him food and continually avoid the question about when he will be allowed to leave.  And, because he never read the text message, he is stuck in the room without a change of clothes. ( A fuwuyuan is the moniker for almost anyone in China who provides some sort of service, be it a waiter, a cleaning lady, a bellboy, etc.)

Luckily for us, Paul is an optimist by nature, and  a natural story teller.  He shares with us several fantastic tales from deep within Beijing’s quarantine zone.  We have posted his blog on our site because he writes it on Facebook and it is hard to access for those without Facebook accounts.

Another easy way to access his blog is to simply access the ‘China Quarantine Blog’ tab at the top of our site.
