Follow up to “Stem Cell Clinics: Dark Side of Medical Tourism”

Posted By Damjan DeNoble

Another good example of why stem cell clinics abroad are a dangerous proposition for any would be medical tourist can be found here.  In short, the article author cites a news story by CBS affiliate KFVS in Southern Illinois that expounds on the successful stem cell treatment undergone by one Chuck Melton of Washington County, Illinois, on a trip to China. Then, in turn, the author provides a critique of both stem cell therapy abroad, and of CBS subsidiary KFVS for running with the story (CBS is on quite the hot streak with two irresponsible China health stories in a row).

I’ve got nothing much else to say on this as my article here pretty well elucidates my thoughts on clinics promising miracle results from stem cell therapy.  But, I will add that it’s not a good thing for the proper development of medical tourism if media sources somehow decide that the story of the industry is stem cell therapy and plastic surgery.

The article seems to originate at bioethics.net, a pretty good looking site that is aggregating news about innovation in Biotechs.  That’s not a full hearted advert for the site, since I have not explored it for more than a couple of minutes, but just a fair mention since someone there seems to be the original author.

My article on a previous CBS gaffe can be found here.
