Why hospitals should use Windows Update…

Posted By Damjan DeNoble

I just came across the best post on Hospital IT issues I’ve read since the start of my blogging career here at Asia Healthcare Blog.  Posted on Synapse, this entry has to do with Sheffield Hospital, UK, and its network problems resulting from a visit by the Conficker Worm.

Amusing excerpt is below, and article to be found here

“…I’ve worked at hospitals running Windows 2000 (which will soon stop receiving critical updates), Internet Explorer 6 (that hasn’t been updated in 9 months), and I have found a multitude of web and USB key viruses.

Put it this way: With my rudimentary knowledge of computer security, I won’t so much as check my email or Netbank, much less attach my USB key, to any hospital computer.

So every time that admittedly annoying “Windows Update” message appears, perhaps take the time to install it. And hope that your hospital is doing the same.”
